But What Does He Look Like?

Good question. Currently, Monster Doctor is an unillustrated book. We thought of hiring an artist to draw pictures of the various monsters found throughout the book, but honestly, hiring an artist is easier said than done. Especially when you aren't sure if anyone is even going to buy your book? How can you justify the expense of paying someone to draw for you? And we wouldn't want to insult anyone asking them to draw for free. After all, it takes time, effort, and a great deal of talent to create a drawing.

Monster Doctor has been living in our house for over a year now. He has become a permanent member of our family. So have all the characters in the book. What does he look like? Well, read the following description taken from chapter 2:

Monster Doctor is not a very large monster, but he is very hungry. He talks with a soft, calm voice so he does not scare the little children monsters. He has big bulgy eyes and a long snout, sort of a mixture between a wolf and an alligator. His nose has soft-looking fur that is stripy like an orange cat. We really don't know what his body looks like because he always wears a long lab coat that should be white but is covered with suspicious stains.

Here's what I'd like to propose. If you are an aspiring artist, or you know someone who is, can you come up with a picture that will fit the above description? We are going to hold contests over the course of the next few weeks for all of the characters in the book. If your rendition of a character is chosen...you will be appropriately rewarded. Who knows maybe you'll even be famous someday. Check back often as we work out the details for these contests - you know, the important stuff like what's the prize? You can email us your pictures in jpeg format to readforfunpress@gmail.com

I look forward to seeing some great drawings!
