But What Does He Look Like?

Good question. Currently, Monster Doctor is an unillustrated book. We thought of hiring an artist to draw pictures of the various monsters found throughout the book, but honestly, hiring an artist is easier said than done. Especially when you aren't sure if anyone is even going to buy your book? How can you justify the expense of paying someone to draw for you? And we wouldn't want to insult anyone asking them to draw for free. After all, it takes time, effort, and a great deal of talent to create a drawing.

Monster Doctor has been living in our house for over a year now. He has become a permanent member of our family. So have all the characters in the book. What does he look like? Well, read the following description taken from chapter 2:

Monster Doctor is not a very large monster, but he is very hungry. He talks with a soft, calm voice so he does not scare the little children monsters. He has big bulgy eyes and a long snout, sort of a mixture between a wolf and an alligator. His nose has soft-looking fur that is stripy like an orange cat. We really don't know what his body looks like because he always wears a long lab coat that should be white but is covered with suspicious stains.

Here's what I'd like to propose. If you are an aspiring artist, or you know someone who is, can you come up with a picture that will fit the above description? We are going to hold contests over the course of the next few weeks for all of the characters in the book. If your rendition of a character is chosen...you will be appropriately rewarded. Who knows maybe you'll even be famous someday. Check back often as we work out the details for these contests - you know, the important stuff like what's the prize? You can email us your pictures in jpeg format to readforfunpress@gmail.com

I look forward to seeing some great drawings!

Meet the Doctor

Who is Monster Doctor? Well, he's a doctor for Monsters. His name is actually Doctor Krakle Vombasket. But it is much easier to call him Monster Doctor. He is not your typical doctor. Oh, sure, he helps you if you are sick and he cures monsters of their various ailments. But not in the typical way.
Let's see an exerpt from the book to read just how he cures some of the patients he sees:

Monster Doctor greeted his patient. “How can I help you today, sir?”

“I got my leg crushed under a truck!”

“Does it hurt?”

“Yeah, it hurts a lot!”

“Oh, that's good,” said Monster Doctor. “Let‘s take a look” He got out his stethoscope and listened to the crushed leg.

“Uh, Doctor, the leg does not have a heart in it”.

“Oh, I wasn't sure where your heart was. Never mind. Your leg is too crushed to fix. There are a couple of things we can do. We can run over your other leg with my monster truck. That would really even things out. I could give you some medicine to make it hurt even more. What else can we do for you? Let me think for a moment... Aha! I know just the thing! Have you had lunch yet?”

“Not yet. My leg is kind of bothering me. If this piece of skin breaks, the whole thing will fall off.”

“Well then,” said the good doctor, “That makes it even easier. I‘ll just get a steak knife and finish the job. Then we can have lunch.”

Uh....what do you think they ate for lunch that day? If you guessed Pizza, you are wrong. Maybe you'll just have to buy the book to find out!
